Bio: As a Seattle artist, I have recently been drawn to painting after years of working in ceramics, printmaking and jewelry. I studied the Fine Arts at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC., before moving to Washington state in 1994. After 20+ years teaching the arts in both Saskatchewan and the Seattle Public Schools, I am now able to fully focus on my own art career.
Artist Statement: My paintings are inspired by my love for water. As a scuba diver, kayaker and swimmer, I have been drawn to waterscapes all my life. I grew up in Eastern Canada where my earliest memories are of spending time on the shores of Georgian Bay. Now I live at the edge of Lake Washington near the Arboretum finding inspiration in my daily walks where I observe the colors, reflections and interplay of light on the surface of the water there. In my paintings I am interested in building layers of patterns and textures to create the close-knit color fields that I observe.
